About Us

Blur Blur Check Check (BBCC) is a fact-checking group co-founded by lecturers and students from the Department of Media Studies at New Era University College. It was established to combat misinformation and disinformation, promote media literacy education, produce fact-checking content, and foster industry-academia cooperation and exchanges.

The name BBCC is inspired by the Malaysian dessert “Bubur Cha Cha”. Purple represents a diverse and tolerant information environment, while yellow symbolizes independence and knowledge. The logo features a magnifying glass over the letter “C” in “check”, highlighting the organisation's mission to verify uncertain information in a complex information landscape. “Think twice before you share in ignorance, and always double check,” reflects its commitment to combating false information in the chaotic digital space.

As a partner of JomCheck, Malaysia's first fact-checking team combining academia, media and civil society organization, BBCC is responsible for sharing, collaborating and translating fact-checking content. It has also partnered with ARUS academy another JomCheck's partner, to promote media literacy among secondary school students through a school card game workshop under the Media Literacy for All (ME4A) campaign.

BBCC is also a member of the Asian Network of News & Information Educators (ANNIE) and has received a grant from the Google News Initiative (GNI) to support the establishment of a student fact-checking organisation. Its fact-checking efforts follow the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) and are aligned with the Annie Lab approach of the Journalism Department at the University of Hong Kong, with its work published on the official website and social media platforms.

Our Mission

Our goal is to combat the spread of misinformation and disinformation by enhancing information verification skills, fostering a culture of fact-checking, and providing students with hands-on fact-checking experiences. We aim to build a sustainable, student-led fact-checking initiative in collaboration with a community of experts, promote international engagement and learning opportunities, and introduce innovative approaches to media education.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a leading force in the fight against fake news and misinformation by empowering students with the knowledge and skills to critically evaluate information. We aim to create a community that values truth, accuracy and fosters responsibility and journalistic ethics in our students. Our vision includes partnering with global fact-checking organizations to advance media education and promote standards of journalistic integrity.
